Ernesto Zárate resisted the trend in the 1920s of replacing indigenous varietals with high yielding hybrids, going on to found the first Albariño festival in 1954. Today his grandson Eulogio is an expert in the grape and uses local seashells, sardines and seaweed to fertilise his soils. This wine ticks all the classic Albariño boxes: Zesty citrus acidity, steely minerality and intensely aromatic, with flavours of preserved lemons, white blossom and pineapple. Drink this with oysters or shellfish and bring the Atlantic Ocean to you!
